The first portrait, Johanna (2007) is painted on Polytoile, a French fine grain synthetic, my favourite canvas.
Usually I start out with a grisaille painting on indian red base, looking like the red bolus clay, used in guilding shops. Then followed by many transparent layers.
The Greek paintings are made on location and painted a bit more à la prima.
